Maharashtra Law Common Entrance Test is known as MH LAWCET. It is the entrance exams conducted for students to give admissions in LLB for 3 years and 5 years.

Some of the important points with respect to the MH LAWCET 2016 were as follows:

  1. MH CET Law 2016 was conducted in online mode on the scheduled dates for a maximum of 2 hours.
  2. The state-level law entrance exam carried maximum marks of 150 comprising as many as 150 questions of multiple-choice type.
  3. While each correct answer to MH CET Law 2016 questions was awarded 1 mark, no marks were deducted for any wrong response.

MH Law CET Exam Pattern
Maharashtra LLB 3 YEAR CET 2016 is conducted only in the Online Mode, using a standardized Equi percentile method, for equating scores across sessions.
The CET comprises Multiple Choice Objective Type Questions in the areas of:

  •  Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning (30)
  • General Knowledge with Current Affairs (40)
  • Logical and Analytical Reasoning (30)
  • English (50)
[Total 150 marks] There would be 150 questions to be answered in a total time of Two hours (i.e. One Hundred and Twenty Minutes). The medium of Question Papers will be English and Marathi. There is no Negative marking for this CET.

Marking Scheme – Each correct answer would be awarded one mark and no marks would be deducted from the total scored marks as there was no negative marking policy. However, questions marked with more than one option would be regarded wrongly attempted and no marks would be awarded, even one of the other options deemed to be correct.

Subjects – The law entrance exam would be conducted for both three-year as well as five-year integrated undergraduate law programs.

3-Year LLB programs – The state-level law exam for a 3-year LLB program would comprise a total of four sections including Legal Aptitude, General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Logical & Analytical Reasoning and English.

Eligibility Criteria for appearing to Maharashtra LLB 3 YEAR CET 2016:

The candidate should be an Indian Citizen. The candidate belonging to the type [NRI, PIO, OCI and Foreign National Students] with following Academic Eligibility is not required to appear for CET. They must only apply for CAP rounds.

  1. Candidate should be a graduate in any faculty of any University in Maharashtra established by an act of Parliament or by a State Legislature or an equivalent National Institution recognized as a Deemed to be University or Foreign University recognized as equivalent to the status of an Indian University by an authority competent to declare equivalence, with minimum 45% of marks in aggregate ( That is 45 % marks for all the parts of the Degree Examination taken together ), ( candidate belonging to SC / ST Category need only 40%marks in the qualifying examination.
  2. An applicant who has passed the U.G degree and or 2/3 years P.G degree from University mentioned in (a) after processing the studies in the pattern of 10+2+3 or 10+2+3+2/3 with regular studies at secondary and higher secondary schooling is eligible, Provided that, the applicant who has obtained First Degree Certificate by distance or correspondence method shall also be considered as eligible for CET of the 3 Years Law Courses. (The applicant who has passed the qualifying examination (10+2, U.G. & or P.G.) in a single sitting examination without having basic qualifications of (10+2+3) is not eligible.)

Further provided that, no candidate from the Open University has a degree contrary to the U.G.C. Act and regulations and contrary to Rules of Legal Education shall be eligible. Further provided that, candidates who are appearing/appeared for the qualifying examination (regular examination of that academic year) are also eligible to apply for the Entrance Examination. Such candidate becomes eligible for admission only if they produce the provisional / Degree certificate of the qualifying examination and the mark lists of all parts of qualifying examination at the time of admission.

There is no upper age limit for admission to 3 year’s LL.B Course.
For the MH LAWCET results, while preparing the merit list if there is a tie in the merit of 2 or more candidates the following process is carried out to calculate the merit of a candidate:

  1. The candidate with a higher percentage of marks in the Qualifying Examination (Degree/ Post-Graduation Degree) is ranked higher in the merit list.
  2. The candidate with a higher percentage of marks in Aggregate at High School Examination or Equivalent Examination is ranked higher in the merit list.
  3. The candidate with a higher percentage of marks in Aggregate at High School Examination or Equivalent Examination is ranked higher in the merit list.
  4. The candidate with a higher percentage of marks in Aggregate at Secondary School Examination or Equivalent Examination is ranked higher in the merit list
