Introduction: BHU is an internationally reputed temple of learning founded by the great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya in 1916 with the co-operation of great personalities like Dr. Annie Besant, who said it to be the University of India. The University Law School offers a 3 years LL.B. and a 2 years LL.M. courses. GOVERNMENT LAW COLLEGE, MUMBAI

Introduction: Government Law College, Mumbai was established in the year 1855. In 1860 it was affiliated to Bombay University which was established two years later, i.e., in 1857. GLC, Mumbai is, therefore a historical institution in Indian history of legal education. GLC, Mumbai has produced a large number of great legal luminaries including a number of Chief Justices of the Supreme Court and the High Courts of India, Attorney and Solicitor-Generals of the country and leading lawyers and legal scholars. ILS LAW COLLEGE, PUNE

Introduction: ILS Law College, Pune was established in the year 1924 by the Indian Law Society, Pune which was founded by several legal luminaries based in Pune. Earlier the college was affiliated to the University of Bombay but after the establishment of the University of Pune in 1948, it became a constituent college of Pune University. ILS Law College has been the pioneer institution of modern and scientific legal education in the country. Alumni of the College includes three Chief Justices of India and a number of Chief Justices and Judges of the High Courts as well as Governors and jurists of national and international repute. An institution named Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS) was founded in 1991 by the society to give an impetus to legal research and scholarship. DEPARTMENT OF LAWS, PANJAB UNIVERSITY, CHANDIGARH

Introduction: The Department of Law, was established in 1870 as Law School at Lahore (Now in Pakistan). In 1909, it was made Law College under the Panjab University. After partition Law College was shifted to East Punjab. A good number of distinguished personalities have been the alumni of this department of the Punjab University. The list includes Chief Justices of India, Judges of the Supreme Court, Chief Justices of the various High Courts, Judges of the High Courts, Chief Ministers, Cabinet Ministers and Ministers of State both at the Centre as well as the various States. RAJIV GANDHI SCHOOL OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW, INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, KHARAGPUR

Introduction: Intellectual Property and Technology Law Education has never been emphasized in the curriculum of legal education so far in our country. In the post TRIPS situation, education and research would now be shifted to Intellectual Property creation in the hubs of science and technology research. Therefore, it was decided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, and the Board of Governors, IIT Kharagpur to accept the proposal of one of its alumni, Mr. Vinod Gupta, a leading business magnate in USA, to establish a Law School within the domain of IIT education research and discipline. In the IIT system, IIT Kharagpur was the first to take the leadership in technology education in the early fifties. Thereafter, IIT Kharagpur was the first technology institution to start the business management school in India in the early nineties. Naturally, in the fitness of things, IIT Kharagpur has now taken on itself the role of a leader, now in
technology law education. For this purpose a full fledged law school, incubated in the Vinod Gupta School of Management, started functioning from the academic year 2006. The School presently has one programme: Six-Semester, Three-Year Full-Time residential LL.B. Introduction: Legal studies in Hyderabad dates back to 1888 with the opening of the law and judicial test classes. They were abolished in 1923 when the Law Department was constituted in Osmania University. There was further expansion when the LL.M. Course was instituted in 1942. The Faculty offers both regular and evening programmes.
The Faculty of Law, Osmania University has a glorious history of more than 100 years. The Law class was opened in the year 1899 to give instruction in law to students desirous of legal profession along with ‘Judicial Test’ classes for Judicial Officers. Thus teaching of Law started even before Osmania University came into existence in the year 1919.

Admission Details: A candidate for admission to LL.B. Semester Course has to qualify at the LL.B. Common Entrance Examination (LAWCET) for that academic year. DEPARTMENT OF LAW, ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY, ALLAHABAD

Introduction: The Law Department functioned in Muir College from 1872 onwards till the new building for Law Faculty of immense architectural beauty was constructed around 1910, adjacent to Senate House on the northern side by the donations provided by the Oudh Bar Association. However this building (now being used by Department of English Studies) did not possess suitable and sufficient accommodation for the fast expanding Law Library and for holding of tutorials in LL.B. classes which was made compulsory by the Bar Council of India. The Law Department was shifted to the new building which was constructed by UGC grants in the Chatham Lines campus for which Hon’ble Mr.
B. K. Sen, the then Law Minister of India, had laid the foundation stone in 1965. The transfer of Law Department to the new building was completed in early 1980s. Till 1955 when principle of rotation for the Dean among Professors was introduced, the Head of Law Department was also the Dean of the Law Faculty.
